February 2nd 2010 - The Mersey Wave
Peter Frink's sculpture, The Mersey Wave, stands astride the main route into Liverpool through Speke. At 200ft. long and 100ft. tall its two sets of illuminated aluminium fins stretch skyward and are 30ft. taller than the Angel of the North in Gateshead. When the sculpture was first unveiled in 2003, movement in strong winds resulted in the fins being rapidly removed to be made safe. It certainly is an impressive and imposing sight. I liked the contrast of the striking blue lights with the orange glow of the neighbouring street lamps on this gloomy and wet evening.
